Location, contact & practical info
When are you open?
Tuesday to Friday we’re here for you from 9:00 to 18:00, including over lunch. On Saturday we’re open from 9:00 to 13:00. Sunday and Monday are our days off. You can drop in anytime during opening hours – for in-depth consultations or custom builds we recommend calling ahead so we can give you the time you deserve.
How do I reach you by public transport?
Easy: take BLT tram line 10 from Basel SBB towards Rodersdorf. Get off at the terminus “Flüh, Station” – we’re just a few minutes’ walk from there. Fun fact: line 10 is one of the very few international tram lines in the world; between Flüh and Rodersdorf it actually crosses French soil and stops in Leymen, Alsace. Beautiful approach included.
Do you offer pick-up and drop-off?
Yes. If your bike needs servicing and you can’t bring it in yourself, we’ll pick it up and bring it back once the work is done. Within a 8 km radius we charge a flat fee of CHF 25 per leg. For locations further afield, give us a quick call and we’ll find a solution.
How can I get in touch?
The fastest way is to call us on +41 61 733 70 00 or email hello@bluemountaincycles.com. On Instagram, Facebook and Strava you’ll find us as @bluemountaincycles. In person we’re at Talstrasse 26, 4112 Flüh, Tuesday to Friday 9:00–18:00 and Saturday 9:00–13:00.
About Blue Mountain Cycles
Who is behind Blue Mountain Cycles?
Blue Mountain Cycles emerged in 2020 from Sieber Velos. Thomy Sieber founded the shop in 1986 and, over decades as a gifted mechanic, laid the foundation we build on today. We carry that spirit forward: bike culture at the highest level, with advice, service, repair and sales that are defined by quality, not by volume. Our team is made up of passionate riders – we call ourselves Cyclopaths.
Where does the name Blue Mountain Cycles come from?
From the mountain right on our doorstep: the Blauen (literally “the Blue”), the local mountain just outside Flüh. We sit at its foot, love the trails all around it, and the name simply felt right. A nice side note: our shop premises used to be a thermal spring in our grandmothers’ time, known as “Bad Flüh” – a spa where people came to do themselves some good and switch off from everyday life. That spirit lives on: Blue Mountain Cycles is, in a sense, the spa for your bike.
What does “Cyclopaths” mean?
Cyclopaths are people who ride, love and breathe bikes and everything around them. We ride whenever we can, our muscles and brain cells seem to be connected by well-oiled chains, and we’re generally in a good mood. Walk through our door and you’ll notice: there are no salespeople here, just riders.
Brands & range
Which bike brands do you stock?
We only stock brands we ride ourselves and truly stand behind. In mountain biking that means Santa Cruz, Transition, Evil Bikes, Mondraker, Focus, Zerode and Mullet Cycles. For road and gravel we have Cervélo, Focus, LOOK and Mondraker. For e-city and touring we carry Focus, Mondraker, Aureus and Benno for the cargo / premium segment. Kids’ bikes from Mondraker and Rascal. BMX from Sunday.
Do you carry e-bikes – and which drive systems?
Yes, in the MTB, gravel, road and e-city categories. We’re a licensed service partner for the leading e-bike drive systems: Bosch, Shimano STEPS, TQ, Fazua and Mahle. That means we don’t just sell them – we handle service, diagnostics and warranty for exactly these systems. E-bikes purchased from us get the latest software update free of charge with every small service.
Do you sell kids’ and youth bikes?
Yes, and with real care. We stock children’s and youth bikes from Mondraker and Rascal in sizes 14″ to 27.5″. Our principle: a kids’ bike has to fit the child today – not the child’s next growth spurt. Better the right bike now than one that’s too big and that they have to grow into. Bring your child along; we’ll take the time to find the right fit.
Do you sell BMX bikes too?
Yes. We stock BMX bikes from the cult American brand Sunday (founded in California, pioneer of the heat-treated 41-Therman frame). From 14″ entry-level BMX for the youngest riders all the way up to full park and street BMX.
Do you stock accessories and spare parts in store?
Yes, we keep a carefully curated range of accessories and spare parts right in the shop. Helmets from POC and IXS, saddles from SQlab and Ergon, tyres from Schwalbe, Continental, Maxxis and Onza, components from Shimano, SRAM, Crankbrothers, OneUp, Industry9 and Mavic, care products from Muc-Off and RSP, and backpacks from EVOC and Camelbak. We stock what we use and recommend ourselves.
Advice & bike fitting
What does a consultation with you look like?
We take our time. A proper consultation starts with listening: what do you ride today, what would you like to ride, which tours or trails are calling you, how often, with whom and how far? From there we work out discipline, geometry, frame size and components. We won’t show you the most expensive bike – we’ll show you the right one. Our motto: “max bang for your buck”. If it helps, we’ll plan a test ride or order a demo bike for the whole weekend. Just come by – ideally with a bit of time on your hands.
What sets your advice apart from the big chain bike stores?
For us it’s not about the sale, it’s about the advice that leads to it. We regularly see customers who were poorly advised by big chains – wrong frame size, wrong discipline for the intended use, wrong riding position. That’s frustrating, costs money and kills the fun. We take the time to get to know you, factor in your anatomy and adapt the bike to you – not the other way around. Our showroom isn’t a sales floor, it’s inspiration.
How do you find the right saddle for me?
We have in-house sit bone measurement. The saddle is – aside from the right frame size – the single most important part of the bike, because it carries a lot of weight over long hours. By measuring your sit bone width we can pick the saddle from our range (including SQlab) that matches your anatomy and riding style. Saddle pain is almost never fate – it’s a set-up issue, and it can be solved.
Do you offer bike fitting?
Yes, we offer bike fitting – deliberately the old-school, hands-on way, with classical measurement and an experienced eye on the rider, without a digital fitting system or subscription service. We work with our eyes, hands and over 30 years of combined bike experience in the team. For most enthusiast and ambitious riders that delivers excellent results. If you need a highly specialised race set-up, we’re happy to refer you to a partner with a digital fitting system.
How do I know my bike doesn’t fit me properly?
Typical signs: pain or numbness in the sit area, neck, wrists or knees; a feeling of always being too stretched out or too cramped; bike handling that feels insecure on trails even though you’re a confident rider; or simply: the bike never feels “right”. Common causes are a frame size that’s too big, an incorrectly set saddle height, a stem that’s too long or too short, the wrong saddle, or simply the wrong bike for your intended use. Drop by – most of these can be diagnosed and fixed in a single appointment.
Test rides & custom builds
Can I take a bike for a test ride?
Yes. Spontaneous test rides directly in front of the shop are possible anytime. If we know you, we don’t need ID or a deposit. For new customers we ask that you leave an ID with us. For longer test loops or specific models, a quick call ahead is a good idea so we can have the right bike ready.
What does a test ride cost and which brands are available?
Spontaneous test rides in front of the shop are free. For selected brands – LOOK, Mondraker and Transition – we can order in demo bikes for a full weekend. We charge a CHF 80 handling fee for that service, which is deducted from the purchase price if you buy the bike afterwards. Available on request, in many models and sizes.
Do you build custom bikes?
Yes, and we love doing it. We sit down with you to work out what you have in mind – frame, components, wheels, cockpit, saddle – then send you a detailed quote and build your dream bike once you give the green light. By the way: a custom build doesn’t have to cost more than an off-the-peg bike. Often it’s actually cheaper, because we don’t pay for components you don’t want. A deposit at order placement is standard.
Workshop, service & repair
What does a service cost at Blue Mountain Cycles?
We work with transparent fixed prices. General inspection: CHF 80. Small service: CHF 140. Big service: CHF 240. E-bike service at the same prices. Small fork service: CHF 120 (parts and fork removal not included). Small shock service: CHF 90 (parts and shock removal not included). Our workshop hourly rate for individual work is CHF 120/h, billed in 15-minute increments. Spare parts are billed separately. If unexpected costs come up, we always call you first to get your sign-off.
What’s the difference between a small and a big service?
The small service (CHF 140) covers the general inspection plus: basic cleaning, oiling and greasing of all moving parts, checking wheels for trueness and spoke tension, measuring chain wear, checking and tuning shifting and brakes (including bleeding where needed), bearing checks (headset, bottom bracket, hubs) and a function check of the lighting. On e-bikes we also charge the battery and run a software update (free of charge on bikes purchased from us). The big service (CHF 240) goes further: drivetrain components are removed, cleaned (in an ultrasonic bath if needed), greased and reassembled. The fork comes off, the headset is cleaned and re-greased. All suspension pivot bearings are inspected. Hub bearings are checked and re-greased. The bike gets a final cleaning and a test ride by our mechanic.
Do you also repair bikes that weren’t bought from you?
Absolutely. We believe every bike deserves a long life – regardless of where it was originally bought. Our workshop takes on all brands and all generations. Whether you bought online, inherited the bike or picked it up second-hand: we’ll get it back in shape. Even older bikes (“ageing patients”) are in good hands with our Workshop Wizard.
Do you service forks and shocks?
Yes, and routinely. The small fork service (CHF 120) covers removal, cleaning of all parts, replacement of dust seals, foam rings, SAG ring and seals, fresh oil (MOTOREX Racing Fork Oil), lubrication, reassembly and a final check. The small shock service (CHF 90) covers initial visual inspection, disassembly, cleaning of all parts, replacement of all seals, lubrication and a final check. Removal and reinstallation of the units on the bike, as well as spare parts, are billed separately. We service suspension from all common manufacturers including Fox and RockShox.
Do you wax bike chains? Do you offer a chain waxing service?
Yes, and it’s currently one of our most popular services. We wax chains with the biodegradable wax from RSP – a clear advantage over classic lubricants, both for your drivetrain and for the environment. What you get: a clean drivetrain (no more black gunk on your calves, trousers and frame), noticeably less wear on chain, cassette and chainrings, more efficient power transfer and a significantly quieter ride. Especially worthwhile for road and gravel bikes, but equally valuable for MTBs and e-bikes that rack up serious mileage. Pricing: waxing a brand-new chain costs CHF 15. If you bring in an already-ridden chain, the drivetrain has to be thoroughly cleaned and degreased before waxing – we bill that preparation work by time spent at our workshop rate of CHF 120/h (in 15-minute increments). Bring your bike in or give us a call and we’ll give you an estimate of the expected effort.
How long does a service take?
We work as quickly as we can – your bike is usually ready again within 3–4 working days. For small repairs like flats, brake adjustments or shifting tune-ups, express or same-day service is often possible. Call us briefly and we’ll tell you whether we can squeeze you in that same day. Every bike leaves our workshop only after a mechanic has taken it for a test ride and come back smiling.
Which e-bike drive systems do you service?
We’re a licensed service partner for Bosch, Shimano STEPS, TQ, Fazua and Mahle. That means: diagnostics, maintenance, software updates and warranty handling – we take care of all of it directly. Even if your e-bike wasn’t purchased from us, we’ll service its drive system. Our mechanics stay continuously up to date through manufacturer training, so you can rely on the service quality.
How do you handle warranty claims?
Bikes purchased from us come with a 2-year warranty, and we handle warranty cases completely on your behalf with the manufacturer – you don’t have to deal with anything. For bikes you didn’t buy from us, we handle warranty processing for non-brand-specific components such as suspension forks and shocks (Fox, RockShox etc.). For brand-specific warranty cases (e.g. a frame crack on a bike bought from another dealer), the claim has to go through the original seller – but we’re happy to help you assess the damage.
After the purchase, rentals & community
What happens after a bike purchase – is a first service included?
Yes. After about 300 km or 3–6 months we’ll give your new bike a free check-up. We inspect shifting, brakes, spoke tension and torque, because components settle in over the first few kilometres and need re-adjusting. That way you get the most out of your new bike and avoid follow-up damage. Just book an appointment when you’re ready.
Can I rent bike accessories from you?
Yes. With us you can rent a roof rack for two bikes or e-bikes (e-bike-rated, since they’re heavier), bike travel cases from EVOC for trips with your bike (perfect for flying or rail travel), and Treefrogs carbon mounts for hassle-free bike transport. Just ask about availability and rates.
Do you organise shop rides or events?
Yes, but deliberately on an event basis rather than weekly. Across the year we run several shop rides, often combined with a BBQ or similar, plus occasional brand demo days with Cervélo, Transition and Santa Cruz. All rides are open to everyone – usually no registration required. Current dates are posted on our Facebook event page @bluemountaincycles and under “Events” on our website. We’re also on Strava as @bluemountaincycles.
Can I finance my bike through you?
Yes. We work with Bob Finance (formerly Bike-Finanzierung.ch) as our financing partner. Just ask us in the shop – we’ll show you the terms and help you with the application. One important note: corporate bike-leasing schemes like those common in Germany (CompanyBike, JobRad etc.) don’t exist in Switzerland in the same form. If needed, we recommend private financing directly via Bob Finance.
Which social media channels are you on?
You’ll find us on Instagram, Facebook and Strava, in each case as @bluemountaincycles. On Instagram and Facebook we post the latest bikes, events, shop rides and stories from the workshop. In our Strava club we share routes and rides around Flüh, the Blauen, the Leimental and the neighbouring Alsace.
